Citizen's Unfair Business Pracitices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Over 3 years ago I bought a new car which was financed with Citizens One. For the first 2 1/2 years they regularly sent me a statement and I faithfully sent them my payment. Last Fall, for some reason, I stopped getting statements and, as a result, my payment was late. Their customer service representative admitted that I should be receiving a statement and, since I paid the late amount as soon as I was notified, they waived any additional charges. Citizens promised that I would start getting my statements again. I didn't. As a result, another payment was late. When their collections department contacted me I made an immediate payment and asked them to please get a statement to me. They promised they would and even agreed to e-mail as well as mail my statement. Neither one ever happened. This poor level of service has continued to the present time. I'm not saying that it's intentional on Citizen's part but they are trying to profit from this as now Citizens is refusing to waive their $20 late fees. Citizens is trying to gain $40 for failing to send billing statements. That's just plain wrong and unfair.

i know that finding steady employees is hard.i go into 2 branches of Citizens Bank. The shortage of staff is an ongoing problem at both branches i go to.Sometimes i go in and only person at the counter and 1 person at the drive thru window.i would say every 2 weeks i run into this problem.what is really irritating is when you have a line of people behind me and ahead of me,and only 2 people at the counter.and these holidays ,the day before and the day after a holiday is bad. They have 3 days off from a holiday week ,and they just cant make it in.i think its terrible.Like Columbus Day, their off saturday ,sunday and monday.I can see if a employee is really ill or a valid reason.i am sorry, its just this banking atmosphere is so different today.

Citizens Bank, Wilkes-Barre, PA

I wouldn't even know where to start with the complaints about this bank. I had an overdrawn account (my fault) I thought a deposit would clear earlier than it did but what happened next was nothing but a rape by this bank. This bank was posting the larger chargers first in an account to assure the remaining posted charges would all be overdrafts then charged $30+ overdraft fee on every charge made. So a $2.00 cup of coffee had a $30+ overdraft fee attached, $5.00 lunch had $30+overdraft fee attached by time they were done with me that day i had over $200+ dollars in overdraft fees. Sadly the charge that did overdraw my account was done at a later time than the rest of the charges it's just that Citizens bank chose to put the largest & later charge through first. I have received since that time 3 checks from settlements that Citizens made from being sued! Ridiculous this bank is the worst.

The only bank that doesn't care about the loyal customers + Sexual harassment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Charter One was the neighborhood bank that I was so proud to open my first checking account as a 16 year old girl. Ten years later... I will have to close my account and I will make sure everyone in my family does too. I will write about this bank everywhere.. Screwing over a student is very low. A student account I opened 10 years ago that had no minimum balance requirement got changed to a $5000 minimum requirement and no one sent a letter home..To explain to me the changes and my options.. I have been getting charged for almost 4 years $15 a month. I went to the local branch and the only thing that got accomplished there was a rebate fee of $50 and the gentleman hitting on me!! Followed with with sexual text messages.. I have NEVER in my life felt so disgusted that not only is my problem not solved but the person who needs to help me out, who has all my account information, my address my social security number... made me feel so uncomfortable.. A banker... during hours of business to ask a customer for her number is disgusting and I gave it to him just so he would not do anything *** with my personal information. This is the third time a banker from charterone/citizens bank has done this to me. I will put the names of these men and the branch location at the end of this message so women can be careful. In case this wasn't enough.. I called the bank on the phone to try to resolve my issue and all the manager his name Tom S.. which I sure he wasn't a manager nor was that his real name gave me his two cent before telling me there is no manager he could transfer me to and HUNG UP on me. He said... the change was mentioned in your estatement... A change this big... that effect a poor student... was mentioned on an estaement.. when over draft fees and anything important is always mailed at home... TEN years have I been a customer and the member of my family even longer... I'm just starting medical school and I don't have a lot of money.. but shame of you for robbing a young girl.. The $300 will not make me or break me.. but its the principal.. PS. I have the text messages saved if anyone cares to see! Citizen bank @ 47650 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48374 (which is a surprise because the old employees there were amazing... I appreciated them and never had a problem) But the young guys they hired.. Citizen bank @ 33333 Twelve Mile Rd, Farmington .. Citizen bank @ 44525 Ann Arbor Rd W, Plymouth, MI

By far the worst bank I've ever had. Im closing my account with them after only having it only open for 30 days. I still haven't received my debit card and now I have to pay in order to receive it. The branch tellers that I've spoken to are the least helpful in any question I ask and always direct me to the 800 number. There was even one teller who told me she was too busy to talk to me, so she hung up.

Loads of CRAB policies, Incompetent Employees, Zero customer service

IN-competent employees!!! Terrible Policies and rules which do not make sense. It actually deserves "ZERO" star!!! I have a few CDs are going to mature one by one in few weeks. And, I have a checking account with them. I went to the bank in person to ask them to roll the going-to matured CDs to my checking account when it is matured. NO! They said that they can NOT do it. According to their "POLICY", I have to go in in person when each CD matured to "CLOSE" each CD account "in person". After protest, the rep called manager unwillingly. And, I was told that I could write a letter to them and saying that I wanted to roll the CDs to checking after CDs matured. But, Watch this: Their policy says that I could not just write the letter in front of them even though they have checked my IDs and verified my identity. According to their "POLICY", I have to take the letter to another place to have it notarized that I am the one who wrote and sign the letter. And, that is NOT all. I can NOT submit this letter to them in person. I have to go to the POST OFFICE and MAIL it to them. ONLY doing that, they will maybe consider to honor my request. They said that that is doing me a FAVOR.... And, how about the CD that was matured today??? Oh, she said "you do not have a CD matured today." That one is already auto renewed for another year+ and that is going to mature at 2017 with interest rate 0.03%!!! After protest, another employee came out and told this incompetent employee that since it is within 10 days grace period, she could cancel the new CD and issue me a check. Did you see the conflict here? First, she told me that I have to come in in person after each CD matured to close the account. But, when I was actually there for the CD that is matured at that day, the CD has been renewed!!! And, if I did not protest, I would not get my money out. They are trying to hijack my money. Few weeks ago, they told me to go in in person to get a better deposit rate for they could not give out on the phone. NO, they do not have a better CD rate. They cheated me to go in in person and tried to sell me their other investment products!!! When I opened the CD accounts, they told me that if I deposited this XXX large amount, I could get this xxx rate. I could transfer the money IN (i.e., deposit to the Citizens bank) without problems, But, when I wanted to use the online banking to transfer money out of the bank, the limit is $5000 per month because the POLICY says to prevent money laundry. They tried all the stops (i.e., all different kinds of POLICIES) to prevent me taking the money out. They gave me a load of crabs!!! I opened a local bank account with the Citizens Bank hoping for the convenience. BUT, all I got is loads of POLICIES and crabs. AVOID CITIZENS BANK! If you need a local bank, CHASE bank next door is much better - they provide notary services for free for their customers during the office hours and the employees do their best to help. At least, CHASE hires only competent employees. I have checked the Chase policies. They do not have such crabs. *** There is more story this week. We got snow storm going. The Bank said that I HAD to go in in person. So, I risked my life driving to the branch to close the CD that is matured yesterday. The store manager did NOT apologize for the inconvenience. What he said was: "You should be GLAD that we are open today!" I asked him whether he got my "notarized" letter (sent through the POST OFFICE) about transferring the CD (when it is matured) to my checking account and that I do not want to renew. He said YES. Then he said this: "You got to call me on or before the CD matured and to "remind" me to do that for you". ME: What ???? He said that he might not remember to do that because he might be away or have meeting or .... Does this bank know what is called "customer service"??? This bank has "0" customer service. And, due to the snow storm, the branch had NO other customers. However, it took them 30 minutes to issue me a check!!! The manager "REFUSED" to issue the check himself by claiming that it is FASTER to have his employee to do it. And, the incompetent employee whom I worked with last weekend "REFUSED" to do it. And, this other employee gladly accept the manager's request. But, she is just another incompetent employee -- she said that she could not find my matured CD. And, she said that "You had several CDs", Which ONE???? I told her the one that has matured. The other employee and the manger were just standing there not helping her. I had to suggest that it might be auto renewed and asked her to look for the CD that is going to matured in 2017. Of course, my CD has been auto "renewed" despite the fact that the manager had received my letter just a day ago that asked him to transfer the money into my checking account. He did NOT do anything!!! And then, their printer got problems ... etc. I do NOT recommend CITIZENS bank. BE aware of their policies, policies, .... policies... policies.

Money sucking bank, service fees charged that should not have for over a year. Citizens can only refund for 2 months, and STEAL the rest from their mistake. New notice of fees, $6 fee for OD transfer, now $12 and 22.9% interest for unpaid balance. SEE YA... If I STOLE like that, I would be before a judge.

As a single mom, I couldn't get the acct managed as his dad had all the info and was busy managing all the grief and issues my kids had when their dad died.. Citizens bank kept 60 because you had already refunded 35 of fees. really??? I am appalled at what this bank stands for. Have been a buisness customer for over 30 years. I also have IRA accounts. I am so pissed off....I am closing everything out. They raised the interest rate on my buisness overdraft line of credit from 5% to 21.99%. I went to complain today and was told they did that to all buisness accounts with this overdraft line of credit. When I told the young woman...the only person there to talk to, that I was going to close out all my accounts she just shrugged her shoulders, clearly not giving a ***.

I've been with them for 15 years. I have 5 accounts there that I am closing now. Beware - if you want to transfer money to another citizens' account (like your wife's for instance), they will ask you to apply for "pop money" which is a 3rd party company (even tho you never leave the bank's website) and from that point on they will charge you $50 a month. Good luck trying to cancel it, because that option is well hidden. I just spent hours on the phone trying to explain the situation. Some parrot kept saying that it was my bad that I didn't read 20 pages of disclaimer before applying for Pop money (which is even bigger scam than citizens). they didn't care that I will take my business elsewhere. It's fine, I don't care about those corporate idiots either.

They can't even process a check correctly!

I have been a customer of Citizens Bank for over 20 years. I have most of my personal and business accounts with them (personal checking and savings account), three business accounts, and two business lines of credit. The customer service has steadily declined over the years. Today was the last straw! I deposited a check last month from a business client and it was returned to me unpaid. I spoke to the client and she said that she was baffled as to why it did not clear. She assured me that the funds were in her account and she asked me to redeposit the check. I physically took the check to her bank and they verified the funds were there. I went to Citizens and re-deposited the check. It was returned again! I contacted her again and she again told me she did not know what was going on. I gave her copies of the returned check notices and the front and back of her check. She called me the next day and said that Citizens made an error. She had her bank write a letter detailing the problem. It turns out that Citizens encoded the check with the wrong bank routing number (twice) and that is why the check was returned unpaid (it was presented to the wrong bank for payment – twice)! So I went into the bank today and waited in a long line to speak to a customer service representative about this issue. He took a long time (about 20 minutes) to read a 3 sentence letter that clearly outlined the issue and to review the copies of the two returned check notices and a copy of the returned check itself. He did not know what to do. Finally, he rebated me the fees and “opened a case” to look into this matter. No apology, no sympathy, just a smarmy look on his face. He was surprised that I was not grateful that he had rebated the fees that never should have been charged in the first place! He kept telling me that “mistakes happen” and “we are all human”. This is banking 101 – process the check presented for payment correctly. I have lost a client because of this error. I client who was paying me over $500 a month. I also spent a good deal of time going to Citizens three separate times to deposit the checks and try to straighten out this matter, and going to my client’s bank to check on the availability of funds. In addition, I sent the customer a gift card as an apology for all this confusion (which Citizens caused). I have no confidence in Citizens anymore. They cannot even process a check correctly! Their customer service stinks. They have no regard for their customers and they do not even have the decency to admit when they are wrong, own up to it, apologize profusely and set about making it right. I will be closing all my accounts as soon as possible and taking my banking business elsewhere. I have had it with these jerks!

Citizens Bank isn't "your neighborhood bank" anymore. All the great paying IT jobs are now gone.

Over 300 of my colleagues were displaced. It managed to stay out of the news because we were not laid off. We were pushed out by forcing us to train IBM Global - India. Many of us left before any of the training could be completed.

Citizens is setting themselves up for a massive security breach. I believe it's only a matter of time.
